Throggs Neck, NY – Junior center Robert Benton (Montgomery, Ala./G.W. Carver) (Montgomery, AL/G.W. Carver) was the high scorer for the Privateers with 19 points however it was a celebratory night for the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent as they pick up a win and junior guard James Mooney (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scored his 1,000th career point in the first half. The victory give the Dolphins a 8-10 record overall and 4-6 in the conference, the Privateers dropped their seventh in a row falling to 2-16.

It was a fast paced game the whole way, with the Dolphins holding an early lead. Despite being down by only four points at the half, the Privateers just came out flat to start the second and gave up a lead that Mount Saint Vincent would hold onto for the rest of the game. Freshman guard Nikero Barbes (Freeport, Bahamas/Freeport Angelican) (Freeport, Bahamas/Ingelican) had another good game for Maritime as he was unstoppable when driving to the basket. Barbes finished the night with eleven points and eight boards which tied a team high as Benton had eight rebounds as well.

Mooney only played 22 minutes after picking up three fouls early in the first half, he finished the game with only nine points. Sophomore center Luigi Nikci (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond’s) had a career high of 29 points and nine rebounds for the Dolphins. Senior guard Gary Browne (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) added 13 points for Maritime sinking a couple of three pointers towards the end of the game, an effort that came just a little bit too late in the game.

On Wednesday, the Privateers will host the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology for a men’s and women’s double header. The women’s game is slated to begin at 5pm and the guy’s game at 7pm.
